As dog owners, it seems we’re always on the lookout for dog-friendly places we can take our pups along to. Not only does bringing our dog with us mean that we don’t have to leave them home alone, it also provides the opportunity for effective socialization – which is crucial to building a calm and well-rounded companion.
In Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, we are very fortunate to have a variety of establishments and dog-friendly places which are extremely welcoming to our four-legged friends. From bars and coffee shops, to parks and hiking trails, there’s something for every dog and every dog owner!
At Greenside Canine Training, we love finding local spots that provide great dog training and socialization opportunities for our pups! With this in mind, we’ve compiled this list of dog-friendly places in and around Indianapolis. With locations across Indiana and Ohio, Upland Brewing Co. prides itself on a sustainable approach to developing its award-winning range of craft beers, IPAs and sours. Their locations also serve food, providing delicious and seasonally-adapted menus.
Several of Upland’s locations have welcoming, dog-friendly patios which enable you to bring your pup along while you enjoy a drink and a meal. Reviews of some locations also mention that staff are more than willing to provide a bowl of fresh water for dogs, too.

Looking to relive the glory days of arcade games of the 1980s and 1990s? 16-Bit Bar + Arcade may be just the place, with over 50 retro games on offer! They also offer a wide range of draft beers, cans, cocktails and mocktails.
Even better, dog owners can bring their pups inside 16-Bit, and staff will also provide fresh water for them.

Leashed dogs are allowed inside Pins Bar, which is based in the historic Bottleworks district of Indianapolis. This bar offers a number of exciting activities, including duckpin bowling, foosball, pinball, ping pong and bocce.

Voted Brewery of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival in 2021, Metazoa Brewing Co. was founded in 2016. Metazoa offers a collection of craft beers, which at least 16 available at any given time.
Metazoa allows dogs inside their taproom, and even has an on-site dog park! To demonstrate their commitment to animals, Metazoa also donates 5% of all company profits to animal charities in Indiana and further afield.
6. Bovaconti Coffee

Based in a historic space which was once referred to as the Bovaconti Jewelers building, Bovaconti Coffee doesn’t just serve great coffee – every element of this establishment is designed to link back to the building’s roots, which stretches back to the 1850s.
Dogs are welcome inside and outside of Bovaconti, and pup cups are available on request.

This French-inspired neighborhood restaurant offers delectable food which recreates the atmosphere and vibe found in bistros throughout France.
Not only are dogs welcome at Petite Chou, but they are also offered dishes from a special menu just for pups.
8. Fort Harrison State Park Dog Park

To the northwest of Indianapolis is Fort Harrison State Park, a 1,700 acre park which offers spacious trails for hiking and other outdoor activities.
You can bring your dog (leashed) anywhere within the park, but there is also a dedicated dog park with three separate fenced areas. Remember to exercise caution when your dog plays with other pups, particularly if other owners are not vigilant about their own dog’s behavior.
9. Holliday Park

Set near the center of Indianapolis, Holliday Park is a 97-acre public park with trails, an arboretum, a playground, and a nature center featuring a bird and wildlife observation area.
This park is a great family-friendly activity. Holliday Park does welcome dogs on leashes, making it a great opportunity to interact with other dogs out for walks. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the nature center area as this could interfere or disturb the wildlife on-site.
10. ARTSPARK at Indianapolis Art Center

If you’re a fan of all things arts and culture, a trip to the Indianapolis Art Center may be a fun day out. Set on 9.5 acres of outdoor space, ARTSPARK brings art, artists and the community together through a number of interactive sculptures.
Dogs are allowed at ARTSPARK; they must be on a leash and well-behaved.
11. Tibbs Drive-In Theatre

Watching a movie at a drive-in – it’s an American staple, and a throwback to days gone by. The Tibbs Drive-in Theatre is the only one in Indianapolis, and has a full service concession stand offering snacks, drinks and more.
Pets are welcome at Tibbs, provided they are on a leash.
